We're having an in-ground 18x36 installed this spring. The pool builder quoted a 1hp pump and a 250k BTU NG heater. I understand that the NEC requires that the pump and heater be on timers, and it seems that nearly everyone uses an outdoor mechanical switch, such as this:

Assuming there's an emergency shutoff within 5' of the pump, and the pump is single speed, is there any reason the outlet the pump is plugged into couldn't be switched indoors, and to fulfill the timer requirement use a single-pole digital wall switch, like this:

Question goes with regard to the pump and the heater both.
