Any reason I can't have auto-fill in TX?

I was told a while back that we could not build a new pool with auto-fill due to some TX code (a water source?). Is there anything you know of that would prevent me from getting auto-fill in TX ? Am I missing something? :?

I thought the drought rules down there were geared against a total refill of a pool and did not prohibit maintaining water level. I can not imagine why an autofill would not be allowed.

If you want to know for sure, talk to your county or city permit office.

I have not heard of any auto-fill restrictions for the State of Texas. However, if your county is under drought stages, this might dictate that non-essential water usage be curtailed.

Here is a reference from a utility:
When topping off, use a hose timer to avoid overfilling. Add a few inches as needed on your scheduled watering day to maintain constant water levels. Auto-fill devices can malfunction and add water unnecessarily. Using a hose makes it easier to tell if a leak develops or the pool level changes dramatically. Austin Water Utility is owned and operated by the City of Austin, Texas.

I think that if it were against the building code, then they would say so.

Here are two references from builders about installing an auto fill:
So, if you don't have auto fill you might consider having one installed on your pool.

I think that if it were against the building code, that they would not offer it

Here is a reference that indicates that water from an "irrigation system" cannot be used:

I think that this is the most likely rule that the person was quoting, and possibly misinterpreting. If they say that an auto-fill is not permitted, then ask them to provide a reference.

To be sure, you could contact your local utility and/or your local Building Inspections Department.

I always say... it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission...

How would anybody know?

Texas rebel (I guess..)
