Rocks and metals

Just wondering.... our pool has a waterfall built of Moss Rock (sandstone impregnated with moss/algae) and most of the pool coping is also moss rock.

This rock can be soft and some are decaying a bit. We intend to have the surfaces pressure washed and sealed as part of the renovation.

My question.... might these orange toned rocks contain iron that has been leaching into the pool?

It is certainly possible. Some kinds of rock do contain a lot of iron and iron does tend to look orange when weathered. On the other hand the orange color could come from the moss.

This may not be relevant but it was interesting and pertains to how sandstone is colored in nature and what happens to change it.
