cantilever coping

In the image below, im trying to wrap my head around how this works.

This coping screws down onto the walls. The liner clips into the track as diagrammed. Where im confused is the "lip". How can a paver cantilever over the wall with that lip there? Seems the paver can come simply up to it.

If anyone has a picture with paver cantilevered over a vinyl pool I would love to see it in detail.

Maybe I figured it out? When they lay the pavers, they put down mortar which will bring the paver up flush with the coping top and out and over by a small margin?

I am not familiar with that track. Is it possible you have it upside down in the photo?

Yes that is possible, but either way there is a lip.

The pavers in the pool photo appear to be a lot thicker (1 1/2 inch +) than those in the photo of the track (3/8?)

I think my photo of the track is deceiving. Its just a piece of track laying on my basement floor.

This is a partial DIY, the dig is scheduled for March so im trying to familiarize myself with the details.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was definitely going on the wrong "track". Putting on my glasses helped.
