Water chemistry and replaster

I have a customer who had his pool re plastered with Diamond Brite. About a year later, he started seeing light cream colored paint in the bottom of the pool. It's not in the spa, only in the bottom of the pool. Has anyone heard of high pH 8.0 or so or high alkalinity causing this?

Welcome to TFP!

That sounds like it might be calcium scaling, which is triggered by some combination of high PH, high TA, and high CH.

One way it could be happening only at the bottom of the pool is if they are adding chemicals that raise the PH while the pump is off and the chemicals are settling down to the bottom of the pool for a while until they mix in throughly.
