when closing pool, chlorine level for adding poly quat?

I have a mesh cover.

Will Poly quat last the whole winter and allow me to open up without a green pool?

Or would i be better off adding poly quat in the spring couple months before opening?

Remember it is thick and needs 24 hours of pumping to get distributed. There are some threads on the use of it and I had found one where chem geek posted the manufacturers recommended process. What I recall was that they suggested you "shock" for a few days at 5-10 ppm first, and then let the FC drop back to normal levels. Based on that I would say you should shock, then when OCLT is passed, let it drop to your normal level then add polyquat and mix for a day, then close.

But there are more expert opinions that should chime in.
