Use Floor Cleaning System or Sidewall Return

We have an in floor cleaning system that we have used for a while. In my opinion these are not that great for cleaning and still requires weekly vacuuming. I prefer the side wall returns since it causes a top water flow and gives movement to pool which I think looks better. We also have a spa overflow. Is there an advantage from a water flow and pool maintenance perspective to using the in floor cleaner as opposed to the side wall returns?

Some possible advantages to the floor system:
1. If you have a SWG, the FC in introduced to the bottom of the pool and thus is slightly more protected from the sun
2. Better mixing of the water (fewer dead spots)

That is about it and both are not that good of reasons to use it.

I had one at my last house and would only have dirt gather in a couple corners. I would just brush it toward the deep end. Honestly I thought it did a pretty good job. I rarely vacuumed and did not use any other kind of cleaner.
