I have the hayward 21 inch sand filter and thinking about going to a bigger filter but everything bigver says inground. Is there any difference in an above ground sand filter and an inground sandfilter?

I run the 22" S220T...love it...that said a 21" should be serving you just fine. Is there something wrong w/it?
I do not think there is any difference for filters above/in ground. You are currently right at the size we would recommend.
Why do you want to go bigger? To reduce how often you backwash? That is the only reason I can think of.
You have to also make sure you do not go too big or you may have trouble adequately backwashing.
