Newbie - bottom drain and skimmer

What are the advantages/disadvantages of piping the bottom drain to a skimmer?

Why not just pipe the bottom drain straight back to the pad?

If you have two bottom drains, do both get piped back to the same skimmer, or should they each go to a separate skimmer?

There are no advantages to the pool owner, but several disadvantages. It saves a little pipe for the installer.

Plumb everything back to the pump for the most flexibility.
