Bottom drain and running pump

i think I have a leak in my pool. I have a bottom drain. Can I close the skimmer valve and run the pump using only the bottom drain while I watch the water fall to find the leak?

I don't see a problem with using the main drain only instead of both skimmer and main drain. Perhaps the only issue will be some loss of psi on the gauge and the slight possibility of air being sucked into the system because of the suction side restriction. Nevertheless, there is no harm.
