Sand filter and cartridge filter combo

I'm putting in a new IG pool 18 X 47 Lazy L vinyl liner. Is it possible to put a cartridge filter in combo with a sand filter? Hope it isn't a bone head question, I searched but couldn't find the question discussed on any thread.

On topic; one proper filter is sufficient.
