There is a tool that the pool guy uses when he removes or attaches the pool cover. My pool has little metal fasteners that you screw in or out of the concrete around the pool with something like a hex wrench on a long handle. What is this called and where can I order one online?

You can just go buy a regular hex wrench. The one that came with my cover got all rusty and ended up shearing.

To reduce losing your grip on the standard L-shaped wrench, get one that is set up like a pocket knife....you flip the correct wrench out, and you can get a good grip on it. Under 10 bucks at HD or Lowes.

The longer ones you noticed are pretty expensive, and can be had at industrial tool supplies.

I've heard them called a bunch of different things:

safety cover tool
safety cover installation rod
loop lock installation tool
spring installation and removal tool

Any of those will come up in searches. Here's a couple of different links (not endorsing any in particular, just what came up on the search):

Ah....you had me going in the wrong direction. Thought you were talking about the tool used to raise/lower the anchors.

You're on the right track with your search. My local pool store keeps some used ones on hand.....check with them to see what they can do.
