Thinking of keeping the 12 and then adding big step stones done the side.
And, I think I am sold on the LED's. Man, staying on budget sure is hard.

The screw-in J&J colorsplash I posted will sync as well - our Jandy PDA supports some LED's in as much as directly picking the show or color, with the colorsplash it's just on-off switching to get the color or show you want then they hold there - or to save more money you can get the LEDs in eBay for ~100 but I can't comment on how rugged the cheapos are.

The nice thing about the expensive LED lights is that they can be synchronized and different light shows displayed.
