Our pool has some separation of the top layer of (flagstone) Tile and the coping (edge) of the top of the pool. Basically the top layer of tile has shifted/settled a bit over the years and there is now about a 2" space between the very top rim of the pool and the tiled areas. (only on 1 end of the pool). So we'd like to (1) remove the tile, (2) clean it all up (remove the old mortar & any under-adhesive - thinset or whatever they used), and put it back in place with new mortar. So my questions:
- since this is NOT at the water level (about 5 inches above it), what is the best way to remove these tiles without getting junk in the pool?
- is there a better/preferred type of Mortar that should be used? Thinset?
- Is this a DIY type of job (with the right tools?). We're pretty handy with tools; but will likely have to rent something to cut the old mortar out
If YOU were to fix this what steps would you use?
Here are a couple of pics .. (hopefully they display properly)
