solar panel temp sensor malfunction

When I checked the temp of the solar panels the reading was 255 deg in the morning, later in the day it was reading 10 deg. The pool people said the sensor was bad, $60.00 later with a new sensor the readings were close to the same 255 deg in the am, then 30 deg when I looked after work. This is an easy touch 8 controller. It has worked fine since 8-11 when it was installed. Any ideas whats up?

It's back to 255 deg as of 9am.

Gopher chewed through the wire! I should have known with all the problems those xxx cause me in this sandy soil. Back to normal at the moment but I think I'll get a conduit for the future.
