How low a pH is safe?

I ask this again since it's a new topic. I am trying to gradually reduce the scaling. I understand I need to maintain a low pH level. My question is:

How low a pH is safe? The suggested level is 7.5-7.8. Should I stick to the lower end of this range or go lower?

    Thank you!

Keep it at or above about 7.2 ... lower can start to cause problems with equipment and be irritating to the eyes.

Ditto Jason 7.2-7.4 would be comfortable and assist in your scale problem, 7.5-7.8 is not really going to help you very much, if at all, FYI 7.2-7.8 is the acceptable range for a plaster pool with the human eye being at 7.5, making the ideal comfort range for bathers 7.4-7.6
