Re: Fighting with pool all summer -- any advice before I dra
I have stayed on top of the pool this weekend maintaining shock level but without much change in clarity. I did add the Bioguard Sparkle Up since I already had some. My filter runs at 14 psi and since adding a small amount of the Bioguard, it has been running at 16.5psi since Sat. FC did drop Sunday afternoon to 11 since we had a lot of sun, so I went ahead and checked PH as well as all other tests. Below are those results:
FC - 11
CC - .5
CYA - 30
CH - 650
TA - 80
PH - 7.2 - 7.4
I have been trying since Thursday to keep shock level at 18 or a little higher thinking maybe I should be treating for mustard algae since I am not getting results at 14 or 15 FC. Last night I tried the overnight test -- tested right at dark -- FC 16 put in bleach per the pool calculator to raise it to 18-- waited 90 minutes and tested again -- was puzzled by the FC -- test said FC was 22 CC .5 and I only put in 1 96 ounce 6% bleach?? I checked it this morning before sun came up and FC was 20 CC .5?? I have never seen this happen since I have been testing with the TF100 kit. I went ahead and put in another 96 ounces before leaving for work at 9 to take it through the day since I knew it was going to be sunny and in the low 90s and I would not be home until evening. I checked when I got home at 8pm and the FC had dropped to 11 with a CC 1.5?? That is the first time my FC was 1.5 -- why is that after testing at .5 so many times? Should I keep shocking at 18? I have already been through 74 bottles of 96 ounce bleach and I have been a cloudy blue since last Tuesday. Is my CH level going to keep it this cloudy? I have a bottle of Bioguard Powerfloc that the pool store actually gave me (I guess since I had spent so much this summer without any change in my pool). I have not wanted to do this which is why I have been holding on to it and then found this site and decided to try the BBB way. I wonder since I have this size pool, if my pump and filter are going to be able to clear it. I went through my pool purchase packet but was unable to find the pump/filter details -- horsepower and filter size. I will get that tomorrow in the daylight. I plan to check FC levels again tonight and in the morning but I wanted to post this for any advice on flocking and/or flocking since I am not seeing any improvement in the water clarity.
Thanks for any advice on how to proceed as my family is telling me to drain at least some of the water and see where we go from there -- I have just been on a mission to whip this pool into shape before there is no summer left. I know if I flock, I will get out a lot of water and refill which will bring down my CH level but I wanted to check before moving in that direction.
