My pump is creating a tornado-like thing in the skimmer and sucks air constantly. The only thing I have found that helps is to run it with 3 chlorine tabs on their sides in the basket. I guess this reduces the suction enough to not make the whirlpool thing. But as soon as those tabs break down it's back to sucking air. What's the problem?

I have no clue what a weir door is. I've run at different levels, and it still does it.
Ok i figured out what that door is... it's never had one. There's not a place where one is supposed to go either.

I get the same vortex when my weir door is unseated, thought that may be an easy answer for you.
I think I've read where people have put a few rocks in their skimmer basket, but it seems to me that doesn't address the underlying issue. Good luck, I'm sure someone here will be able to help out.

Thanks anyway Dattia. Right there has to be an underlying issue... it never did this before about a month ago.

Does your pool have a main drain, if so open it more and stop down the skimmer some. No main drain? add more water.
