    Spa make-up return

I am re-doing my plumbing and have a question about Spa make-up return.

In page 2 (Basic Pool & Spa Combination Plumbing) of this link, there is a jandy valve and a check valve right after the heater.

I am wondering if I can remove that make-up loop and use the existing 3-way valve to control the spa make-up return. Can I just leave that 3-way valve slightly open so that some water can flow to Spa return? Of course, I will install a check valve in the SPA return line. In my proposed setup, I can save a 2-way jandy valve. Any comments?

That's the way mine is plumbed. No spa bypass, I have to set it manually.

Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!
