Turned off my SWG, went BBB, wife said OMG

K sounds good, thanks again Bama. Im trying to understand, say i did drain a quarter of water, and cya is a 35, would less chorine be needed? maybe half or 1 gallon 12% a week? thanks.
We stoped using pucks since reading posts here(guess thats what raised the cya so high)

There's a point of diminishing returns both ways. Too little CYA & it doesn't provide enough protection and the sun burns up your FC to fast & you lose more per day than you're losing now. Too much CYA & it's hard to keep the FC high enough to prevent algae and bloom requires impossible amounts to effectively shock the pool.

It works out that 40 to 60 ppm is the correct range for most people who manually chlorinate their pool or 70 to 80 for swg users.

Eta: 2ppm per day loss is about as good as you can expect in an outdoor pool.
