Thread: The little tube in the filter

The little tube in the filter

    Hayward cartridge filter.

There was a very poorly constructed mesh filter on the end of this tube. Mesh on tiny plastic basket, held with caulk.

    Long gone.

On one filter cleaning I did find a piece of bark in the end of it (not completely obstructing)

What does the tube do? What bad things happen if it obstructs?
    Thanks As Always!

The filter sucks out air from the tank. Uncovered, unfiltered water can escape.
