water coming out of backwash valve question.

Hi all, I gues this is a 2 prt question. first, the filter is 2 yrs old. water comes out the backwash valve when running. it's fine if in the recirculate position. but I guess thats not filterng the water, just keeping it moving, right? Why would it do that?
Second.. would this cause no pressure during backwashing?
How is this fixable?

You're describing a leaking spider gasket in the multiport valve. They're pretty easy to change. And yes, that would cause the pressure to be low when in backwash too.

thanks for your help. Even tho its only 2 yrs old this would happen? would this be something easier bought online or pool store. I have found that online is cheaper than store?

Do you shut off your pump when switching the valve? This can mess things up if you are trying to change position on the valve with the pump running.

My filter exhibited the exact symptoms as yours - water coming out of the drain port when it shouldn't. As Bama said, it was my spider gasket. My filter was 1 year old.

The biggest difference between buying it online and the pool store is that you can take the old one to the pool store to make sure it fits before hauling it home. You can't do that online.
