Drain pool and start over???

Hello,

I am waging a battle against whatever is in the pool and feel like I am losing! Currently I am following the "shocking your pool" process as outlined in pool school. But my question is, is there ever a time when you would want to drain the entire pool and just start over? Right now, we are on Day 4 of shocking and are not making much progress. I wonder what the experts have to say on when, if ever, one should drain and start fresh?

Normally you don't gain anything by fully draining. If you've been using stabilized chlorine, a partial drain may be needed to get your CYA to a reasonable level. Can you post your test results?
