Vacation Disaster -- kind of...

We just returned from a short vacation and the pool looked fantastic but.....apparently the return hose split and the pool drained! Now I think the pump is fried!! I'm attaching pics from our current filter/pump. I'm looking for recommendations for a more quiet setup that will do the job. Also, is there some kind of something we can attach that will either alarm us when the water gets low or maybe shut the pump off when it happens?

First, I am guessing that you pool is not 15200 gallons, but actually 13500 gallons, since you wall my be 54" but your fill level is only 48 (4 ft.).

That looks like a 25 sq. ft. filter from what I can tell from the pic. DE filters benefit from being oversized just like cartridges as long as you break it down to clean it. If you do break it down to clean it then our recommendation would be a 38 sq. ft. filter ( but 19 sq. ft. minimum).

For the pump, is there another label telling us what pump it is? The label you posted is for the motor.

If you buy a new one, we would recommend a 2-speed pump probably 3/4 to 1 hp. Running on low will be much quieter.

Our pool is 24' round, 4' on the sides and dug out to 5' in the middle, so ~ 15200 gal. At least that's what's in all our documentation. It is a 25 sq. ft. filter -- I can look for another label for the pump, but that's all I found before it got too dark. We replaced this motor about 9 years ago. I'm thinking about getting this as it was what was spec'd in the replacement filter system (http://www.doheny.com/poolsupplies/Hayw ... -3556.html).

Ahh, if it is dug out (which I love), then it would be close your 15,200 number.

For the pump, if you go that route, get the 1 hp 2 speed on that page (though there are much better prices out there for it).

Crisis averted!! Turns out the outlet must have been drenched. Once all was dry, everything is working again...Kind of a bummer though -- was looking to upgrade my pump. Anyway, for the future, if I want a 2 speed pump, will I have to run a 230v line out to where we have the pump installed? We ran a 125v line out there (about 45 ft) for the current pump, but it's in conduit and buried. Not sure how all that works.

Plenty of 2-speed pumps run fine on 125...unless you are referring to controlling it at a hardwired remote switch.
