If I vacuum I will need to replace the water that is removed during the vacuum process. Since we just put the pool in we have alot of dirt that goes into the pool daily. We have not decided what to put around the pool yet. So it is a muddy mess around the pool.
is it ok to vacuum. while shocking?

I wouldn't do too much vacuuming to waste if you can avoid it. However, it is fine to vacuum normally, in filter mode where the water returns to the pool.
How often can to vaccum to filter instead of waste. We are on a well and refilling everyday after vacuuming to waste scares me.
I only vacuum to waste when opening my pool and getting rid of a lot of debris... otherwise, vacuuming on filter is the way to go.
I vacuum mine and return the water to the pool. Only when my pressure goes up do I backwash and send the water to waste. My filter runs 8 - 11 PSI, normally. When it gets any higher it loses suction and that's when I backwash- which isn't often.
