Water & Leaves on Pool Cover

Any easy tips for getting all the water from storm off the pool cover before taking it off? We had a big storm and there is tons of water on cover. I need to get the water off or all of it and the dirt and leaves will go in my nice sparkly clean pool.

    Please Help!!

I know they sell special pool cover pumps that come on automatically when there is enough water. We use a submersible sump pump. It has a lame basket the previous owners put it in to keep leaves from clogging the pump. It works.

Sorry, I meant to say utility pump not sump pump as it doesn't have any floats to trigger it to turn on etc.
