Hello All,

Just opened out new pool. 36K gallon gunite pool with attached raised spa. getting chemistry under control (thanks to this awesome site, and the fantastic kit TF100!) Quick silly beginner question. I know you never add chlorine and acid at same time due to noxious gas formation, but are there any other combo no-nos? Or is it a good rule to only ever adjust one thing per 6hr period or so? thanks for the help!

Todd

Never combine cal-hypo and dichlor or trichlor in the same container. It will start a fire and possibly an explosion. Don't even put them in a container that has held one or the other and been washed. Very dangerous combination.

If you decide to dilute acid always pour the acid into the water, never the other way around! Pouring water into acid will cause the acid to splash up and can burn or damage skin, fabric, ect...

Always store acid upright in a ventilated area, well away from sources of ignition and well away from anything you do not want damaged by the corrosive fumes.

Don't raise PH on the same day as adding CH.

Don't add any two chemicals at the exact same time.

Don't pre-mix any two chemicals together, add them separately to the Pool.

Adjusting PH has a small effect on TA. Likewise raising TA has a small effect on PH. If adjusting both, do one first then retest before don't the other.

High FC levels (above 10) can invalidate the PH test.

Run the pump for 24 hours after adding salt or CYA.
