What's the best way to get an accurate CC level? Using TF-100, it says to "multiply the number of drops by 0.5 to get your CC level"... so only 1 drop would be a CC of .5, the max to determine if you need to shock or not. Is there a way to test between 0 and .5? Can't really had a half drop...

Increments of 0.5 are the closest CC reading you can get. Ideally, you should have 0 CC.

You do not shock when CC is 0.5. You shock when CC is higher than 0.5.

There is a way to test CC more precisely, see the extended test kit directions, but there is no reason anyone with a residential pool would ever need to do that.

If you really care you can run the test with a larger sample size. So for a 20ml sample each drop would be .25ppm

But there really isn't any need to. From time to time you'll register a little CC. As long as that 2nd drop clears it - figure you are fine unless you have other reasons to think you are not.

Thanks! Just thought "shock over .5" seemed a delicate balance... so 1 drop don't worry, 2 drops shock? Clears with 1 drop, was just curious if would clear with 3/4 drop... or if it clears with 2 drops, is it's like CC of .75, if so, shock?

If my CC test turns a little pink, I just add chlorine to get to the top of my normal pH range. By the next day, it always stays clear like normal... Don't seat it, enjoy!

Anything, even ever so slightly, above 0.5 means you need to lower the CC. Normally that should be done by shocking the pool. In an outdoor pool CC shouldn't ever go that high unless something is obviously wrong.
