I have a 24x48 above ground pool. It has a Hayward Power-Flo Matrix 1 1/2hp pump with Sandmaster SM2106T sand filter. The pool & equipment is new as of Aug 2010. We have had problems every year! I'm new to pool ownership & operation. Last year I had an algae problem due to using cheap chlorine & 2 days of being away from home. We live in a small town & there is one pool store (locally owned). I purchased the Omni Synergy box system to use this year thinking it would simplify the chemicals. Upon opening the pool with a fresh refill I added 17.5lbs of the Initiator & shocked as instructed. The 4 way test strips included with the Synergy kept showing no chlorine, so I continued shocking as instructed. The pool place has no idea why the pool won't hold chlorine. I noticed white papery like deposits on the bottom of the pool. The pool place had me use a chemical called Pink Treat along with 3 1/2lbs of shock & said probably white mold was the problem. My test results before the Pink Treat & shock are
Total chlorine 1.6
Free chlorine 1.4
Ph 7.8
Total Alkalinity 220
Calcium Hardness 175
Stabilizer 12
Copper & iron 0
Total Diss. Solids 457
I added 1/3 gal of muratic acid to lower Ph prior to adding the Pink Treat & shock. Before adding those I noticed a white powdery substance on the pool floor that brushed off easily. The pool place says it's the white water mold. Any suggestions??
