Low TA and normal pH....hmmmm

So I have had a great opening and at this point only see one point that concerns me - my low TA. I know I can add baking soda to raise it, but that will also send my pH up out of range I believe. So what's a girl to do - just slowly add bs and test a lot?

Here are today's numbers:
FC - 3
pH - 7.5
TA - 40
CYA - 40

Baking soda has a very minor effect on pH, probably not even noticeable if you only raise the TA to ~70ppm.

Are you using poolcalculator to see how chemicals affect your levels?

Although your pH is ok right now, one problem that we see with TA readings that are very low is that your water doesn't handle pH swings as well. TA is a buffer system and this means that it acts as a cushion for large pH swings from chemical additions. 60 is about as low as most would want it to be. I see no harm in bumping it up with the addition of baking soda.

Have you checked to TA of your fill water. It may be the cause of your low TA.
