Pool Rover can't get out of the deep end

This week I found a AquaProducts Pool Rover cleaner for above ground pools for a song on Craigslist so I bought it. I tried it out tonight for the first time and the only problem is that it cannot get itself out of the deep end as the slope is very steep.

If I give it a little tug on the cord it makes it, so my thought is that making it slightly more buoyant may allow it to tackle the slope in my pool. Has anyone done this? I am thinking of adding foam blocks inside the cover in the 4 corners of the rover. Thoughts?
