Newbie Need help with Combined Chlorine

From now on, please only chlorinate/shock with bleach or another liquid chlorine. You've added CYA, your CH is plenty high, and you've got a pool store to do some testing at so if you can make a couple-few trips a day to the store for testing, I'd personally choose to begin shocking now. However, I'm not new to all this so that opinion is slightly skewed and you probably should listen to Bama...

As far as having the pool store test for you while shocking, drive fast as the water will continue to consume chlorine while you drive. Tests may be a little off but you'll get an idea of how much chlorine you're loosing per hour which will give you a rough estimate of how much you need to add every hour or two for the first day (read - day one guestimates are only valid for that day, continue testing multiple times each day to get day two/three/four, etc. guestimates) Give the pool a tip (extra chlorine, maybe a ppm or two worth) for being such a good pool each time you re-dose as well just to be sure. It's better to overdo shock level by a ppm or two than to underdo shock level. Chlorine levels can be quite high before damage occurs. Use the pool calculator and check out the mustard algae levels for your comfort if you're concerned about tipping the pool.
