Hi guys. I keep my pool level pretty high for vacuuming purposes and because Im 6'3''. :)
The water level is just below the skimmer. Last night we got a ton of rain so I put the filter on backwash with the pump off and just let it flow out to the back of my yard. So this morning as I am refilling the pool a bit I am wondering if I would have just been better off just letting the pool overflow from the rainwater. Any harm in doing that ?

Overflow is usually fine. The risk is that you don't have any control over where the water goes. For some pools, especially above ground but potentially any pool, overflow will wash out dirt that you don't want washed out.
