It seems we have quite a bit of debris on the top of our water lately. If Pool School talks about stuff like this, I don't remember where. Could this possibly be a skimmer problem? If so, is there a way to test them to see if they're working properly? Thanks!
Skimmers possibly not skimming properly...

Watch the debris when the pump is on. It should slowly circle around the pool and some of it should be drawn into the skimmer as it goes past the skimmer. If that is not happening, then your circulation pattern isn't good and you need to adjust the return fittings aim so they get the water moving around in a uniform pattern.
Do the returns need to be pointed a little upward toward the surface of the pool in order to help direct the debris or does that not really affect anything?
Somewhat up to down can help mix shallow and deep water, but won't have much effect on surface debris.
