I can't tell you why your son has burning eyes but I am sure it's not from the chlorine. What is your CYA? What is your pH?

His eyes were very red. He's only five and I keep telling him not to open them under water but... Not sure if he listens to me .

With the CYA @ 70 I suspect it will take a few days to get down around 3-5ppm which is a good target.
Your pH looks good. If it rises rather quickly on you, I suggest you lower TA to around 60-70....it'll probably slow down the pH rise.
