To shock or not.

Honestly, it depends on what criteria is used to determine "testing fine". Show us the numbers.
Water is clear now but 2 weeks ago it was really cloudy. Shocked it and let the pump run continuously for a few days. Chlorine was very high then but now is leveling out. Went to Leslie's and they insisted I shock it With a non chlorine shock. Why would I do that?

Alkalinity 120

Need a full set of numbers.
CYA is key to knowing what your CYA should be. Pool stores are notorious for not understanding or ignoring the relationship ... allowing them to sell you more "stuff".
Your own test kit will be your best investment.
