I'm in PA and our old pool of 3 years was only a 12'x36". We drained all but a few inches (weight to keep it from blowing away) and left it all winter. We didn't cover and would shopvac the remaining water in the spring. Then we would scrub the vinyl with bleach and refill with the well. It did fine for 3 years and is now at my brother-in-laws (he hasn't set it up yet I don't think.)
I see everything from large 15+ easy sets to the larger blue metal frame Intex pools up all winter in people's yards. Most look like they have full water level in them.
I plan to leave the 22' soon to arrive up all winter, but will drain it down below the filter levels for winter and cover. Equipment is disconnected and stored in the basement.
