Thread: Can I put my 18' Intex pool on a concrete slab?

Can I put my 18' Intex pool on a concrete slab?

A friend just gave me an 18' by 4' Intex pool. It's the one where you blow up the top ring. It has no support poles. It did not come with a ground cloth. I intend to put the pool on a 25' by 25' concrete pad, as it's the only level surface on my property.

    Two questions:

Could the weight of the water cause my concrete to crack?

Should I buy a ground cloth, or can I just put the pool right on the concrete?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Welcome to TFP.

    1) Yes, but not likely.

    2) If it's clean and smooth I'd just put it right on the concrete.

It could crack, mostly depends on the thickness of the concrete, rebar, ect.

Maybe put some foam down first, it would prevent the concrete from possible causing a leak from scrubbing action as you enjoy it and would give a softer surface to walk on.

I put one of those on an asphalt driveway (pretty rough gravel mix.) The bottom of those things have Kevlar in them, I think, and are very tough. I did use the included ground cloth the first year, but not the second. I never had any problems with the bottom. The donut, on the other hand, was a constant battle to keep it airtight. Happily, I was able to trade up after two years.

Thanks for the responses! I'll give it a go on the concrete.

Go for the foam, it will feel a lot better on your feet. Someone just posted about using the 1/4" fanfold and that it worked great

Was wondering if you did end up setting your pool on concrete and if so, how did it work for you and how did you do it, with or without some kind of cushion, like sand or foam? Thank you for any help on this

Yes - I would like to know how it worked out, too.
We are looking at buying the same size one but we only have grass in our backyard.
My husband wants to have concrete poured, but I don't think we need to.
