Fine tuning my water balance suggestions

28000 swg VINYL inground pool with the following:

    ph 7.0
    FC 4.6
    TA 103
    CH 124
CYA 36 But added almost 6 lbs less than 24 hours ago
    salt 3400
    borate 33
    csi -0.9

Do I just aerate to raise pH or add some baking soda? If so how many days of aeration as i won't be home till next Friday. I can leave on the stairs jets, glorified bubble maker.
    Pool only open 1 week

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

We use Borax to raise pH and use Baking Soda to raise TA.

So, I suggest you use borax and raise the pH to about 7.4.

What kind of pool do you have (vinyl, fiberglass, plaster, pebble, etc)?

    P.s.
Whats the difference between By weight or By volume?
If I buy a box of borax what does the box correspond to?
    Thanks again

"by weight" means weighing on a scale. "by volume" means measuring in a measuring cup. Most solids are sold be weight. Most liquids are sold by volume.

Re: Fine tuning my water balance suggestions

Are you having problems with ph rise? If you are, then lowering TA makes sense. You can use the "effects of adding chemicals" section near the bottom of the poolcalculator.com to see approximately how much your TA will move down when you add MA. How long just depends on how much aeration you get and it is a slower process as your TA gets lower. Have you read: http://www.troublefreepool.com/pool-...l%20alkalinity

The SLAM process is not finished until: 1. CC < 0.5 ppm, 2. An OCLT < 1.0 ppm and, 3. The water is crystal clear.

Re: Fine tuning my water balance suggestions

One nice thing about TA, it typically lowers itself overtime, since higher TA causes ph rise and then lowering ph with acid also lowers TA. The net effect is a slow lowering of TA unless you are constantly filling your pool (i.e. lots of evaporation, splash out, etc.) with high TA water .

Re: Fine tuning my water balance suggestions

No expert here, but yes you should use MA to lower you pH. 7.5 if you're not trying to lower TA any further and 7.2 if you are. Someone please correct if I'm wrong.

Yes, swimming is fine down to a PH of 7.2.
