Low salt readings

I was hoping someone could try and help me with my salt readings. When I opened the pool three weeks ago the salt reading on my Intellichlor was around 2800ppm. I added salt and brought it up to 3500ppm. About a week ago I started getting a red light, “very low” salt reading. I called the PB they said to add more salt and run the pump for 48 hours straight. I did this Friday afternoon (7 bags) and I’m still getting 2700 ppm reading. I bought test strips and they read 3200 ppm on Saturday. Any suggestions would be very helpful. How old is your InteliChlor cell? Do you have an autofill system?

Remember that it takes 24 hours with the pump running before the unit will fully register any change in the salt level.

The cell was installed last June and used until September, we do not have an autofill. I ran the pump from 4pm Friday until 5pm Saturday. Then again Sunday from 6:00am until 5pm.

The only other thing I can think of would be if the water is cold. Very cold water can make the salt level read lower than actual.

It's been around the mid 60's. The temps are suppose to warm up this week.
Do you think the cell could be bad?

You can certainly raise the salt level to 3400 ppm. If you're generating the right amount of chlorine and your tests are correct, I wouldn't worry too much over it. As Jason said, they do read low when the temperature is low. Also, if it's an older unit, there is a calibration method that I had to use on my older unit. It always read differently than the actual readings, so I calibrated and all the lights were green from there on. Was that 60º air or water temp?

If it's air temp your water could be colder and that's the problem.

The water temp has been around 65-69. The forecast for this week shows it warming up. I will probably give a few more days and see if the ppm reading moves up.

If it's getting close to the year mark, I'd go ahead and call Pentair and start a ticket. If it turns out to be nothing they'll just close it. Unless you go the 3 year warranty.

I do have the 3 year warranty. I called the PB and he was going to call his Pentair rep. and see what they had to say.
