Pool Shock Temperature

What is the optimum temperature to shock a pool?

Just opening pool.
Water temperature: 57 deg
Outside air: 40/65
FC .1
CC 5.2
TC 5.3
pH 7.2

Should I heat pool before shocking?

You can shock now. The process may go just a bit slower but not enough to warrant the money to heat the pool.

You sure have a hefty CC's test result. How does your water look? Do you know your CYA level to get to the appropriate shock value?

Pool is the usual cloudy blue. I don't know the CYA numbers. From past years experience I have found that 12gallons of pool shock will clear out the CC to 0.
I pour the 12 gallons jugs into several 5 gallon buckets and then quickly dump it into the pool. Always do it after sunset. I've had good luck with this system, the pool shock will lower the pH so increaser is always needed.

The amount of chlorine you actually need to use is highly dependent on your CYA level. It is well worth finding out what your CYA level is.
