Another post asking for new pump help....please :-)

Hi all, I am hoping to get some help to replace my pool pump. I currently run my pump 24/7 and it does OK, but the lid doesn't seal very good and might possibly be cracked.

Hard to tell my pipe diameters and lengths to calculate the flow. I am pretty sure they might be 2" thick from the drain (1 in deep end) and skimmers (2). The return pipe is 2" but somewhere along the way it converts into my returns (qty 3) that are 1/2" (no nozel or any thing).

My equipment will primarily remain the same with the possible addition of adding solar on the roof of my one level garage.

What do you think about a pump like this? I like the idea of having the flexibility of the dual speed. Do you think there would be enough flow when on low for my SWG? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

The WhisperFlo is a significantly larger pump, despite having the same 1 HP rating, somewhat larger than your current pump. The WhisperFlo is sure to be enough, even a bit too much for your current filter, and it will use more electricity than the SuperFlo. The SuperFlo is slightly smaller than your current pump, likely to be fine, though I am less confident about that, and certainly less expensive to run.

What brand of SWG do you have? And what is your clean filter pressure?

Either of those pumps would be an upgrade for you! As for the SWG, as long as it is not mounted vertically, the low speed should work okay for you.

If you added solar, you would probably have to run the pump on high speed when solar is on...but you could test it on low and see how it works.

It is hard to tell for sure, but it looks like your pump is pretty close to your filter. Jason is right about the size of the pumps. Not sure how much room you have for a bigger pump.

Jason and Blake, thanks so much for responding. This web site has been such a huge help for my trouble free enjoyment of my pool!

To answer your questions my SWG is the compupool 48 and is mounted horizontally. My filter start pressure is around 12 (I believe from memory). Not sure how accurate it is but I did just replace the multiport.

I didn't even think about the size of the pump....good point! There is a little more room than what it looks like in the picture but I'll need to measure to be safe.

Do you have a recommendation from one of these four options (or a completely different brand/line)?

1. wisperflo WFDS-24 - up rated pump 1 HP ~($610)
2. wisperflow wfds-4 - full rated 1 HP ~($640)
3. SuperFlo 1 HP ~($430)
4. SuperFlow 1.5 HP ~($460)

Again, I really appreciate the expertise that you share!

I like Pentair, and think any of those would do just fine for you. If you get a SuperFlo, just make sure you get a dual speed.
