Dead Pump Motor- Replacement Question

My pump motor is dead. The shaft is totally frozen the bearings are worn. Im going to replace the motor. The rest of the pump is fine. Of course the pool stores tried to tell me it would cost me close to the same to do this however luckily I didnt believe them...

Its a 3/4 hp motor on a Hayward Super Pump. Can and/or should I upgrade to the 1 HP? its $3 more.... Also since I have never done this before is there anything I need to consider? Im going to replace the gaskets. Anything else? thanks.

You need to replace the shaft seal at the same time. The 1 HP motor wouldn't make much difference. It is the impeller that determines how much water the pump moves, not the motor.
