Hayward Pro Series S-166T vs Hayward VL40T32

I'm pretty sure we need to upgrade the filter and pump. Pool came with the VL40T32 and I don't think the filter is big enough. Would the Hayward S-166T 100 pound sand filter with a 1 HP motor work.

Yes, however a slightly larger filter and a two speed pump would be even better. The kits almost always undersize the filter and oversize the pump. A larger filter will filter better, go longer between cleanings/backwashing, and be more efficient. A smaller pump will save money on electricity. Smaller pumps aren't commonly available, but a two speed pump on low is the same thing as a smaller pump, and you still have high speed available if you need it.
