Adding CYA

Hello TFP. Opened using BBB this year. I began shocking Friday 4/20. I'm now adding 6 pounds of CYA to go from 0-20ish. I started yesterday filling socks and putting them in front of the 3 returns. Very little has been distributed when I periodically check the socks. Seems it will take a week or so to add the 6 pounds. I have been sprinkling a very little around the pool as well.

Should I add it more rapidly or am I on the right track? I think I read the numerous posts about adding CYA. Thank you.

20x40 inground, fiberglass 3 foot down then vinyl.

1.95HP Hayward Super II pump
Posiflo 2 Cartridge Filter 135 sq foot
Jandy Lite 2 400 Natural Gas heater.

You can massage the socks whenever you walk by to help it dissolve faster. I usually can't leave them alone and it'll wind up dissolving in about two days.

Last year I added my CYA directly into the skimmer basket/return. I poured 1/4 of the total amount into both skimmer baskets (for 1/2 the total amount), and then a week or two later I added the 2nd half of the dosage (1/4 per basket).

It worked well as far as I can tell.

I have been sprinkling a very little around the pool as well.

You do not want any chemical sitting on your liner. Best to vac it up and let the filter catch it.

The massaging is working well. I don't see any sitting on the liner so I assume it disolved. Its still pretty cloudy though. I brush it every now and then to stir it up. Thanks for the advise!
