Noisy New Pump

Hello -

I have an uprated 1.5hp whisperflow two speed pump that is brand new (on a brand new pool).

-It is very loud when on high with both the returns and spa jets on.
-If I turn on only the spa jets, it returns to a normal noise level.
-If I turn on only the returns it is very noisy.
-If the pump is on low, it has a good noise level no matter what setting I have for the return/spa set up.

What can I do to fix the issue? Also, is this something my PB should fix?

Is the strainer basket full when it is noisy?

Hi John! The strainer baskets are empty both in the pump and at the skimmers... Any ideas on how to fix?

Hmm. I thought he meant full of water ... not debris.

Check that your pool water level is at the mark on the skimmer face or about halfway, and that the skimmer weir moves freely.

Oops... sorry. The water level is about 2/3 of the way up the skimmer plates.

Could there be a blockage in the pool return causing the pump to "work harder"? although that does not make sense that it would be load when on both return circuits.

What do your pressures look like for the various combinations of returns?

I read something on another post indicating that potentially having not enough resistance may cause a loud pump - is this a possibility?
