I have to size an absorption chiller to cool a swimming pool

    Hi All,

I live in Hong Kong and as fresh engineering graduate from university, I have to size an absorption chiller to cool a swimming pool which gets too hot in the summer. The pool water reaches around 31 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity is around 80% on average in Hong Kong. The main heating source of the pool is the sun at noon time. The pool is 50 × 20 meters and has an average depth of 1.6 meters
Anyone can help me to work out an approximate size of the chiller required?
My Pool: 18'x36' Grecian. Vinyl Liner, 500# sand filter, SWG.

My hobbies: Brewing beer and flying rockets.

    daham,

This is a forum for residential pool owners and, as such, you will not find much help for engineering formulas for commercial pools.

The formulas that you need are in this site http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/
First you have to know the actual heat load the pool is absorbing, and the desired temp, and how fast you want to chill the water. I work in the hvacr industry and can do this calculation, but I highly reccomend that a Certified Mechanical Engineer do the calculations.

Oops I did not read the op well, as a graduate in egineering you should know how to do this calculation.

Another resource would be manufacturers of the type of equipment you are interested in using. They are usually willing to help you with these types of problems.
