You need to maintain the shock level. One time addition of chlorine in all probability will not clear up your pool. You need to test regularly (when shocking, as often as you are able) and KEEP the chlorine at shock level until your pool is clear, AND it passes the overnight chlorine loss test (see pool school) AND you have .5ppm CC or less. All of them.
You might clear up your pool throwing random amounts of chlorine at it, but you WILL make it a sparkly wonderful pool if you do it systematically as we teach.
