Water leak or evaporation in salt water pool

Interesting question. I'm about to do a bucket test because my pool is loosing about an inch of water a day.

Since my salt levels keep going down if I continue to add water, and the salt generator has been off for a month or more, I'm feeling pretty confident that my pool is leaking. My thinking is that if the water was evaporating then the salt would not evaporate with it, so when I add more water to the pool the salt levels would stay roughly the same...

Good thinking, or does it sound like I am looking for causality in all the wrong places?

:-D

Ok, after finding the leak the theory was validated. I was going through about a bag of salt every week or two. After sealing the hole in the pool, whenI add more water to make up for evaporation, it does not affect my salt level in my pool...
