2 speed pump, SWCG & timer - suggestions for setup

Hi folks,

I didn't want to clutter this thread (pump-sizing-help-t40222.html) where mas985 gave me some pump recommendations.

I'm going from a single speed 230v pump with a mechanical timer to a 2 speed pump & adding an SWCG and trying to wrap my head around how (or if) to re-do the timer.

I expect to run the pump on low all the time, except when I'm running my polaris 360 cleaner. I have to manually open a valve to run the cleaner, so there's no point in automating the high/low speed, or is there?

The SWCG should only be on when the pump is running, correct?

Can I stick with my existing setup - have the timer turn on both the pump & SWCG? Or have a multi-input timer to turn the SWCG on a little after the pump comes on? Or...?

Do the 2 speed pumps come with a high/low switch installed on the motor itself, or do I need that function in the timer?

Thanks for your input!

Yes, the SWCG will only run where the pump is running. There may be an issue with lack of water flow on low speed. (Depends on the SWCG model.) You will have to adjust down the SWCG when you increase your pump run time.

You should be able to do everything you want to do now with your setup.

I think you are responsible for buying/installing the switch depending on your install. I don't see why you cant have a hi/low switch and run or a standard timer, or you could upgrade your timer to include hi/low run times. Depends on how much you want to spend.
